Extraordinary Acts Make Extraordinary People

In the TED talk above extraordinary individual Natalie Warne inspires us and reminds us that regardless of age, experience or life choices our everyday acts give us the power to be extraordinary and that those extraordinary acts are important than any fame we could achieve.

Natalie Warne is young woman who chose to put off that first year of college to intern for Invisible Children after learning about their work and Africa’s longest war. Her work and the work of 100 other interns lead a movement culminating in the passage of US legislature aimed at ending the atrocities of Africa’s longest war and helping the child soldiers it created.

This talk is both inspiring and real as Natalie’s story isn’t special or individual and it’s definitely something any of the 100 interns who worked tirelessly in creating Invisible Children sit ins could have shared. She reminds us of this fact and ends with the sentiments that her “Oprah” moment isn’t what’s made her extraordinary but rather the work with Invisible Children and her attempts to be extraordinary in her everyday life (waiting tables and paying bills) are what make her extraordinary.

Remember, as Natalie’s discovered, it’s never too late to make a difference, even if your schedule is jam packed try and pick up an internship during your time abroad or check out an “alternative” spring break program and start spreading the love. Some of the alternative spring breaks or volunteer vacations will accept a commitment as short as one week, so don’t feel you’re SOL with your hectic schedule.

Impact, Being Extraordinary
