Let’s be real, whether you’re at home or abroad sometimes a night away is on the agenda. Maybe you’re dancing in a club without a last call or you’ve made a special new friend or two; your late night activities shouldn’t keep you from having a lovely morning. With a little foresight you can create a next-morning-survival-kit that will keep you looking classy without sacrificing nearly as much purse space as you might imagine.
Sunglasses. In my opinion the key to not looking totally out of place as you roam around “the next day” is to have some sunglasses. They hide any and all unfortunate mascara situations, help ward off light-induced headaches, and help you feeling (and looking) more like an awesome spy making your way down the street than a sketchy walk-of-shame-er. These will be the largest part of your next-morning-survival-kit but they are vital and worth making space for.
Bobby pins. Bobby pins are the secret to taming your night-out hair into a respectable morning-stroll do. I have long thick hair and have found that as few as 4 or 5 are enough to take me from frizzy mess to sleek chignon.
Hair tie. You might be the type of gal who keeps a hair tie on her wrist at all times, even so, you’ll do yourself a favor by slipping one of these into your next-morning-survival-kit. They take up absolutely no space and are crazy strong (I’ve yet to have one break on me). With one of these at your disposal you can replace that tattered one on your wrist with a bracelet without worry.
Some cash. Make sure to have a little bit of cash on you, at least enough for your cab, bus, or train ride home. If you’re within walking distance think of this as the budget for breakfast of triumph.
Lip balm. Make sure to pack some lip balm in your kit because nothing will make you stand out on the street more than bright night-time lips early in the day. Any old lip balm will do but if you really want something special you can pack something like this which intuitively adjusts to your lip and skin tone to give you a healthy morning glow (this one is great too but it only goes on your lips).
Gum or mints. This is optional for you, but not for anyone you come across. If you have space bring along some gum or mints. If you don’t have space, never fear! If your night away involves a night at someone else’s place just pop into their bathroom before you leave and use some of their toothpaste (on your finger) to freshen up.
Ear buds. These are optional but if you have a smart phone with some music on it, it doesn’t hurt to bring a long some ear buds so you can treat yourself to some tunes on your journey home (or to class, or to brunch with your friends, or wherever else you might be going). Bonus, they take up almost no space.
